FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS LIFE COACHING?

Life coaching is a process that helps you achieve your goals and become the best version of you, specifically using the guidance of a trained professional.

WHAT IS DISABILITY LIFE COACHING?

This is a specialized form of coaching that specifically addresses the needs of people with disabilities. Common coaching session topics include how to increase social exposure, how to prepare for employment, and how to better handle daily personal challenges that come with living with a disability.

WHAT HOW CAN A LIFE COACH HELP ME?

A well-trained and experienced coach can help you get out of a rut, discover your potential, and help you forge new paths towards achieving your goals. A coach helps you get from point A to point B, all while allowing you to realize that you hold all the answers. A disability life coach can help you find the confidence to more fully live your life and enjoy your world, whether that involves discovering a new skill, summoning the courage to socialize more, or moving past other obstacles that are holding you back.

WHAT DOES A LIFE COACH DO?

At the most fundamental level, a coach asks a lot of questions and listens very carefully to your answers. Through teamwork with clients and strong communication, a coach helps guide clients discover the best path through their own thought processes and answers.

WHAT DOES A LIFE COACH NOT DO?

First and foremost, a life coach doesn't judge. A life coach is not a counselor, therapist, consultant, or psychologist. As such, coaching sessions do not address or attempt to "fix" problems from the past that are better suited for other professionals. Life coaching is all about moving forward and helping clients accomplish their goals.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LIFE COACHING?

The answer to this lies completely in your frame of mind. The best candidates for life coaching are in a relatively solid place in life, but want to make a transition or move forward somehow. It is important to work through other major life issues (e.g. divorce, grief, illness, etc.) prior to working with a life coach. Good candidates know what they want to do and where they want to go, but just need some guidance in overcoming obstacles to getting there.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A DISABILITY FOR YOU TO COACH ME?

Absolutely not! My first clients during my coach training did not have any disabilities, and people across the board - regardless of their physical condition - often have a lot of the same needs when it comes to life coaching. As a power wheelchair user, I'm attuned to the needs of the disabled community. However, as a business owner, single mother, veteran, and just plain human being, I'm in a position to coach people in a wide variety of situations.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

Every client's needs and schedule are different. However, holding a session at least weekly tends to be the most effective for accountability, measuring progress, and addressing new concerns. Clients can schedule regular appointments or book as they go.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?

I charge clients an hourly fee, as that is the length of a typical coaching session. I do offer discounts for session bundles. Please contact me for current rates.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Send me an email or call me! My contact info is at the bottom of the page. I will ask you some questions to determine if you're a good candidate for life coaching. If so, I will send you a client intake questionnaire. It's a bit long and will take some time to fill out, but the more information you can provide me up front about who you are and what goals you have, the more productive our sessions will be. Then we can discuss scheduling.
